AB SEARCH_16S is a new algorithm that annotates 16S ribosomal RNA genes in microbial genomes and metagenomic sequences. Word counting is used to identify candidate segments, then conserved motifs are used to identify homologous loci close to the gene boundaries. SEARCH_16S has >99% sensitivity to known 16S genes.
