Here I describe minimal media lacking both cobalt and cobalamin yet suitable for clonal growth of Ostreococcus tauri. Because Ostreococcus lacks the methylcobalamin-independent methionine synthase METE, Ostreococcus growth without cobalamin is unexplained.
